Launch of the Intercollegiate Green Theatre Checklist

On Wednesday, 19 February the Intercollegiate Sustainability in Surgery Groups will launch the updated version of the Green Theatre Checklist.

Professor Camilla Carroll FRCS, RCSI Council Member and RCSI Ambassador for Sustainability in Surgery, has represented RCSI in this work and will participate in a panel discussion as part of a Webinar that will be held to mark the publication of the updated checklist.

Commenting on the importance of this body of work, Prof. Carroll said: "The WHO has declared Climate Change to be the greatest threat to human health. Increasingly, we are aware of the carbon footprint associated with the delivery of healthcare. The surgical suite is a carbon hotspot within the hospital setting. This results from the necessary use of anaesthetic gases, consumables and the energy required to deliver surgical care. Sustainable quality improvement in the delivery of surgical care must address the impact of such care on the environment, society and the exchequer. RCSI is committed to the delivery of “Green Surgical Principles and Practice”, based on current evidence."

Prof. Carroll would like to invite you to join the launch and further details plus online registration is available online here.
