Applications to deliver the Millin Lecture 2025 are now open!

The 48th Millin Lecture will take place in RCSI on Friday, 14 November 2025.

The opportunity to deliver this prestigious lecture is open to all the surgical specialties. The opportunity is open to candidates who are either Members or Fellows of the College, in good standing, for the lectureship. Usually, the successful applicant will be well-advanced in his/her surgical training or in their first five years in consultant practice.

Preference will be given to candidates whose surgical research has been carried out wholly or in part in Ireland. The chosen theme shall be of clinical interest embodying original research, comprising a substantial body of work and be suitable for presentation as a formal lecture. The Lecturer will receive the Millin Medal.

The application window for the 2025 Millin Lecture is now open and will close on Friday, 19 September 2025.

RCSI Professional Competence Scheme: Enrolment Deadline - 29 June, 2025

If you are registered with the Medical Council of Ireland and practise in Ireland for more than 30 days in a year, you must enrol in a Professional Competence Scheme (PCS). 

On May 1, 2025, the Medical Council introduced a new Framework for the Maintenance of Professional Competence. In response, RCSI has launched a new portal to enable surgeons and emergency medicine doctors record their CPD activities and meet annual PCS requirements.

Under the new guidelines, all registered doctors must enrol in the PCS within 60 days of the start of the PCS year. This means you must complete your enrolment by June 29, 2025.

Register your interest: Basic Surgical Principles and Practice (BSPP)

The Basic Surgical Principles and Practice Certificate (BSPP) for SHO’s has been specifically designed for surgical doctors who are not currently on a formal surgical training programme. 

The purpose of the programme is to provide educational support in a structured way based on the blueprint of the Intercollegiate Core Surgical Curriculum and the MRCS examination syllabus. 

Please note, prospective candidates looking to apply for this programme will need to be registered on our 2024-2025 CPD Support Scheme. 

Fees: The total fee for this certificate is €2,240. €990 is covered via the NCHD CPD funding which will be claimed back directly from the HSE on behalf of the NCHD’s. 

Candidates will need to pay the remaining balance of €1,250 which can be paid in three instalments. NCHDs can claim the €1,250 fee back directly from their hospitals as this certificate is approved by HSE NDTP under the Training Support Scheme (TSS).
