From RCSI Medical University of Bahrain to a National Win in the US
Reflecting on her time at RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, she credits her education and training as instrumental in preparing her for this opportunity. “The values and skills I developed at RCSI Medical University of Bahrain laid the foundation that enabled me to earn the scholarship and take this important step in my career,” she shared.
After graduating as valedictorian of the RCSI Bahrain Class of 2021 and receiving the Gold Medal in Nursing, Ms Jenan Albaqali began working as a Senior Staff Nurse at Awali Hospital for almost 3 years. She was later awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, sponsored by the US Department of State, to pursue a master’s in public health (MPH) in Health Promotion and Health Education at The University of Texas Health Science Centre in Houston. Ms Albaqali’s career has since evolved from clinical nursing to a growing focus on public health leadership, health education, and international collaboration.
When asked about her experience at RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, Ms Albaqali said: “RCSI Medical University of Bahrain provided a strong academic foundation and leadership training to us as healthcare providers. The curriculum emphasized both clinical excellence and the importance of lifelong learning, which positioned me well for graduate level study and competitive scholarships. As a student, I had many opportunities to engage in research, develop critical thinking, and participate in community outreach, all of which were essential when applying for the Fulbright. The support and mentorship I received at RCSI built my confidence and deepened my passion for health equity and education. Recognized for my academic excellence, I was honoured to be selected by my professors at UTHealth Houston to represent the university at the National Case Study Competition in Health Education (NCSCHE®).”
“The National Case Study Competition in Health Education (NCSCHE®) took place on April 15, 2025, in Long Beach, Los Angeles, California. The competition brought together student teams from leading US universities to address real-world public health challenges. My teammate and I developed and presented a comprehensive intervention strategy, ultimately earning the Gold Level Award, a prestigious recognition of our mastery of the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) Core Competencies for Health Education Specialists.”
“Representing RCSI Medical University of Bahrain internationally has been both an honour and a responsibility. It was deeply fulfilling to highlight the quality of education and professionalism that the University instils in its graduates. Winning the Gold Level Award served not just as a personal milestone, but also as a testament to the global readiness of Bahraini healthcare professionals. I am proud to show that nurses trained in Bahrain can compete and lead on an international platform. It has opened doors for networking, collaboration, and cultural exchange bringing visibility to the talent and potential of alumni on the global stage.”
Ms Albaqali advised current students to: “Take every opportunity to grow academically, professionally, and personally. Believe in your abilities, seek mentorship, and never underestimate the global impact you can make with your RCSI Medical University of Bahrain education.”
We are proud to celebrate her achievements and grateful for her continued connection to the RCSI Medical University of Bahrain alumni community.
